• Stage 2: Surgery (only if necessary). “In more advanced cases, where the disease has progressed significantly, surgery may be required to clean and repair the affected tissues,” adds Dr. Budescu. These procedures, such as gingivectomy, periodontal pocket reduction or bone grafts, are explained in detail, step by step, so that the patient understands exactly what will happen and why each step is necessary. “For patients with periodontal disease, we recommend check-ups at least twice a year,” explains Dr. Budescu. “However, depending on the initial severity of the disease and your response to treatment, more frequent visits – every 3–4 months – may be necessary. These regular appointments allow us to monitor the progression of the disease, carry out professional cleanings and adjust the treatment plan if necessary, ensuring that your smile remains healthy in the long term.”
