Questions

How important is a beautiful smile?

A person with a beautiful smile has more confidence and tends to feel much more comfortable in social and professional interactions. It also has an impact on overall health, which is why I would like oral health to be a more frequently discussed topic. Along with the treatments I perform daily, I always try to explain to my patients the role of dental prevention and what we can do daily to have a beautiful and healthy smile.

How do you determine the appropriate dental aesthetics for each patient?

This is an initial step of the treatment plan and involves a facial, phonetic, gingival, and dental analysis, as well as an evaluation of the relationship between the teeth and lips during speech and when the patient smiles. An important role and a real help is the simulation of the smile design using software such as SmileCloud.

All this takes just a few minutes. We upload a photo of the patient smiling broadly, and based on an advanced search algorithm, designs that best match the patient's aesthetic are generated.

How many visits are needed for an aesthetic smile transformation?

During the first session, we will take a series of diagnostic photos and analyze the dental occlusion using the 4D Modjaw scanner. Then, we will create the treatment plan and a simulation of the future smile, which we discuss step by step with the patient.

After preparing the teeth, a digital impression is taken using the intraoral scanner, which is very comfortable for the patient. Then, with a single click, we send all the information to the dental laboratory, which uses CAD/CAM technology to create a customized design for the future prosthetic work.

After the trial of the prosthetics, in the final session, we perform the cementation, with minimal adjustment needed thanks to the use of the latest technologies mentioned above. Each case is unique, but these are the main steps. After completing the treatments, I would like to remind you of the importance of regular check-ups and prophylaxis.

When is prosthetic treatment a medical necessity?

Prosthetic treatment is medically necessary in various situations, aiming for functional and aesthetic rehabilitation. For example, it is recommended for patients with edentulous spaces (missing teeth) or devitalized teeth (without a nerve) to prevent complications over time, such as tooth migration or fracture in the case of devitalized teeth.

Additionally, minimally invasive prosthetic treatment is recommended when color or shape changes of the teeth are desired, using dental veneers.

What ingredient is essential for a successful prosthetic treatment?

I believe that before starting any prosthetic treatment, case planning plays a crucial role. Furthermore, close collaboration and effective communication between the dentist and the patient, as well as between the dentist and dental technicians, with the transmission of all aesthetic and functional requirements, are absolutely essential to achieve a predictable and successful long-term result.

What is the most memorable reaction you have received from a patient?

“In the end, I can smile again, you’ve changed my life!”

Tell us more about your role as a mentor doctor.

Mentorship is an experience that brings me many satisfactions and challenges, both professionally and personally, being a bidirectional process that requires real involvement and patience. It is also proof that all the work I have put in so far is recognized and represents an opportunity to share the knowledge and experience accumulated over time.

It is a joy for me to offer support and guide the professional development of colleagues at the beginning of their journey because I know how important the help I received five years ago was when I joined the Sibiu team from Dr. Cristian Csapo-Martinescu and Dr. Vlad Platon, the doctors who initially guided me and to whom I am grateful.

How do you collaborate in a multidisciplinary manner for complex treatment plans?

From my point of view, multidisciplinary collaboration in complex treatment plans is essential. Team discussions help us provide patients with individualized treatment solutions at the highest standards. Only by having a global vision can we ensure long-term success and predictability of treatments.

In our team in Sibiu, for periodontology, I collaborate with Dr. Cristina Stănescu and Dr. Octavian Sântu, for endodontics (root canal treatments) with Dr. Radu Silviu Valentin, who works exclusively with a microscope. If orthodontic treatment (braces) is needed, this stage of the treatment plan will be handled by Dr. Marius Ion, and the surgical part will be performed by Dr. Cătălin Martișcă.

What are your favorite activities in your free time?

The main activity in my free time that brings me joy and energy is spending time in nature. My favorite weekends are a combination of exploring as many mountain trails as possible and socializing with loved ones, who are an important part of my life.
