Philosophy

My professional philosophy is based on continuous development, transparency, and open communication with patients. I believe it's essential to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and technologies to offer efficient, personalized treatments. Currently, I am focused on full oral rehabilitation treatments using the All-on-4 dental implant systems, as they address the treatment needs of patients with significant bone resorption.
In patient relationships, I emphasize explaining each step of the treatment process, enabling them to make informed decisions and feel secure. Furthermore, collaboration with other specialists ensures an integrated approach, while empathy and respect are the foundation of every interaction. My goal is to provide not only medical solutions but also comfort and confidence.

Interview with Dr. Cătălin Mărtișcă

How did you choose to specialize in dento-alveolar surgery?

I chose dento-alveolar surgery because I've always been drawn to the complexity of surgical cases, and I felt this branch of dentistry perfectly combines technical skills with the human side of our profession. It’s a specialty that constantly challenges me to learn and improve. Every case represents an opportunity to surpass my limits and offer patients the best solutions, which brings me immense professional satisfaction.

What are the main treatments you provide for your patients?

The main treatments I offer include dental extractions, including impacted teeth, and implant placements, using modern systems such as surgical guides to ensure rapid and stable integration. Additionally, I perform bone reconstructions, which are crucial when the jawbone lacks sufficient width or height to support an implant. In such cases, I use specific materials to rebuild bone structure, either the patient’s own tissue or biocompatible materials available in clinics.
All these treatments are essential for establishing a solid foundation for dental restorations, allowing patients to live a normal life without the discomfort and limitations caused by missing teeth.

What new development in your field excites you the most?

I am passionate about using surgical guides in implantology. These guides allow us to plan interventions from start to finish with extreme precision. With specialized software, we can position implants with millimetric accuracy. This technology is particularly useful in complex cases where space or bone structure is challenging, reducing post-operative discomfort since the procedures are quicker, less invasive, and better controlled.

How important is it to develop professionally alongside experienced doctors?

Continuous professional development is essential. In our field, advancements happen rapidly, and to offer the best solutions to patients, one must keep up-to-date with new techniques and technologies by attending courses, conferences, and international workshops. I’ve had the privilege of learning from some of the best specialists in the field, both in Romania and abroad. One of the mentors who has greatly influenced my career is Prof. Dr. Paulo Malo, a pioneer in implantology and complex oral rehabilitation.
I’d also like to mention my clinic colleagues, Dr. Alice Gavrilescu and Dr. Vasile Brănici, with whom I worked early in my career. In our clinics, treatment plans are approached in a multidisciplinary way. I collaborate with prosthodontists from all DENT ESTET clinics across the country, allowing me to focus solely on the surgical aspect of treatment.

What do you think is the biggest benefit you offer your patients?

I believe the greatest benefit I provide is restoring both dental functionality and confidence in their smile. Often, patients come to us with pain or complex issues that impact their quality of life, and through my interventions, whether it's a complicated extraction or implant placement, I offer effective solutions that minimize discomfort and recovery time. This transformation, whether it enables them to eat without pain or smile freely, creates a real positive change in their lives.

How do you earn the trust of your patients?

Building trust with patients starts with open and honest communication. I like to explain each step of the process, answer all questions, and ensure they understand every aspect of the treatment. Every patient is different, and their needs must be individually understood. A calm, personalized approach, along with being open to discussions, makes them feel safe.
Transparency is crucial; I explain every procedure in simple terms and create a relaxing atmosphere in the office. Using state-of-the-art technology and demonstrating real results also helps build confidence in the effectiveness of the treatments I provide.

What is the most memorable case you have treated so far?

For example, I recently had a patient in Sibiu who needed bone and gum reconstruction and dental implant treatment. During the procedure, the situation became more complex, and I had to adjust the approach, but I always kept the situation under control. In a follow-up discussion, the patient told me that during the procedure, they looked at me and didn’t see any expression of concern, which gave them a sense of security. The patient followed post-operative instructions, and the recovery proceeded within normal parameters.
Generally, we closely monitor each patient’s symptoms because they are subjective and vary from patient to patient, as well as from one intervention to another. As a rule, the patient follows post-operative treatment with anti-inflammatories, pain relievers, and antibiotics if needed. Sensitivity and inflammation are normal in the first 48 hours after surgery and gradually subside.

You have a busy schedule. Do you have any habit or activity that energizes you?

I find energy in outdoor activities. Running not only helps me stay fit but also gives me valuable time to clear my mind. I enjoy mountain hiking, exploring new trails, and admiring the beauty of nature. These experiences not only recharge me but also help maintain my well-being. Nature walks are essential for me; they provide a haven of peace and relaxation, preparing me to face daily challenges.
