Philosophy

The best thing about dentistry is that moment when my patients look in the mirror for the first time, straight after their braces have been removed. They simply can’t stop smiling. Every time, I feel incredibly privileged to have a profession that allows me to give people greater confidence and happiness.

Questions

Why did you choose to study dentistry and then specialise in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics?

I chose to study dentistry because I wanted to give patients a beautiful, healthy and confident smile. To practise dentistry, you need technical skills, but also an inventive mind and plenty of creativity. As for my specialisation, I chose orthodontics because I, too, wore braces as a child and experienced first-hand the improvements they brought to my smile. I can honestly say it changed my life, and ever since then I’ve wanted to become a specialist orthodontist.

What is the most important thing when it comes to a healthy smile?

A healthy smile means, first and foremost, a correct bite. That is why it is very important to visit an orthodontist from the earliest years of life. Many parents are unaware, for example, that a child’s first visit to an orthodontist should take place around the age of seven. An incorrect bite can cause several dental problems both in childhood and in adulthood.

Is there a particular course or moment that has had a significant impact on your professional development?

There have been several courses that have had a significant impact on my professional development. I was particularly impressed by the ClearCorrect course in Barcelona, where I learnt a great deal of new information about the biomechanics of aligners and ‘tips and tricks’ for achieving the best results using clear aligners. Patients are very satisfied with ClearCorrect aligners, as they are currently the most aesthetic and transparent aligners available.

What would you say to adult patients who, for various reasons, put off seeking orthodontic treatment?

Patients should be informed of the importance of consulting an orthodontist, not only for aesthetic reasons but also for functional ones. Wearing braces and straightening the teeth, together with correcting the bite, can resolve and prevent many dental, gum and periodontal conditions.

Why should every child have an orthodontic check-up?

Early orthodontic treatment in children is essential because it helps prevent more serious problems from developing later in life, and corrections—such as jaw expansion, guiding bone growth or correcting harmful oral habits—are easier and quicker to achieve in children.

It is very important that the first visit to an orthodontist takes place around the age of seven, and in some cases even earlier. The orthodontist can observe the skeletal growth of the maxilla and mandible, as well as any misalignments of the teeth or malocclusions that can be easily corrected at this age.

What does the future of dentistry look like in the field of orthodontics?

The future of orthodontics will undoubtedly be dominated by clear aligners, as they are far more practical and offer many significant advantages over traditional metal braces.

Do you have a mentor or someone who inspires you?

My inspiration is undoubtedly Dr William Proffit. I had the honour of attending a course led by Dr William Proffit, the master of orthodontics, in Barcelona, where I was deeply impressed by the advice he gave, which completely transformed my perspective and understanding of biomechanics in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics. His book, ‘Contemporary Orthodontics’, is, to date, the most comprehensive and highly regarded book on orthodontics, which I love to re-read time and again.

But do you have a favourite motto?

If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.”

What gives you the greatest satisfaction in your job?

I feel happiest when patients tell me that they have started smiling more often and more broadly following their orthodontic treatment.

What is your promise to patients?

I aim to be the best version of myself in everything I do and to offer my patients the most pleasant and comfortable experience possible throughout their orthodontic treatment. Given the nature of my specialism, orthodontics has the power to transform people’s lives, so I ensure that my patients receive the right treatment plan and the guarantee of an excellent result, both functionally and aesthetically.
