Who is Prof. Dr. Paulo Maló
Prof. Dr. Paulo Maló is the inventor of over 20 techniques and systems that have completely changed the paradigm in dental implantology, primarily addressing patients with partial or total edentulism, with irrecoverable teeth and severe bone atrophy.
Undoubtedly, Paulo Maló is one of the most renowned figures in modern dentistry. His work, which began in 1991-1992, has saved hopeless patients worldwide and inspired generations of implantologists to use techniques that bring hope to patients with complex cases.
Born in Namibe, a city in Portuguese Angola, he attended high school in Cape Town (South Africa), and in the 1960s moved to Portugal to study dentistry in Lisbon. In 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the University of Lisbon. During his university years, Paulo Maló focused on implantology, aiming to fundamentally change how implants were performed at that time, especially for patients with partial or total edentulism. At that time, for people without teeth on one or both dental arches, at least 6-8 implants were required to fix the prosthetic work.
In 1993, together with his medical and clinical research team, Paulo Maló began developing a revolutionary oral rehabilitation technique, which later led to the creation of the All-on-4® concept and the Maló Protocol®.
In 1995, Paulo Maló founded Maló Clinic, a network of dental clinics that expanded to 22 countries on 5 continents, which he led until 2019.

Immediate Load single tooth and small bridges is the procedure invented by Prof. Dr. Paulo Maló, whereby, at the time of implant placement, the provisional prosthetic work is also fixed, whether it is a dental crown or a dental bridge for 2-3 teeth. Convinced of the high success rate of this procedure, the team led by Paulo Maló wondered if it should go further and create a protocol to allow the replacement of 10-12 teeth on the dental arch.
