Take a stroll through Piața Sfatului, admire the imposing Black Church on your way to Poarta Schei, walk beneath Tâmpa and, as you descend past the Weavers’ Bastion, you’ll reach Strada Castelului. Opened in 2008 by Dr Codruța Ciurescu under the name Krondent, the clinic joined the DENT ESTET family in 2020. Over the years, we have built a local reputation, particularly for dental implant treatments, periodontal treatments and root canal treatments. But if there is one field we are passionate about and in which we are pioneers, it is laser dentistry. 

Laser technology had caught Dr Ciurescu’s attention as early as 2013. Fascinated by the vast possibilities that lasers opened up in medicine, a few years later she knew this was the natural next step. So she completed her Master of Science degree at the prestigious RWTH University in Aachen, Germany, in 2017.

But Codruța was by no means a novice in dentistry. A truly dedicated and passionate professional, Dr Ciurescu already had a solid specialisation in dento-alveolar surgery, complemented by a course in implantology and periodontology at Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse. Convinced that she could offer her patients truly effective treatments, she remained firmly rooted in the world of laser research, within the AALZ (the postgraduate education department of the laser dentistry department at RWTH).

When you arrive at number 108, you’ll be greeted by a typical Old Town entrance, with a tall, imposing gate. To the left, climb a few steps and you’ll reach the reception area, where you’ll be welcomed by our friendly team, ready to ensure everything runs smoothly until the doctor takes over. 

Once inside the clinic, you’ll immediately notice the elegant and unconventional design of the space, which will help you forget all about the typical image of a traditional clinic! Everything is designed to make you feel comfortable. The interior has been recently renovated, a project carried out in collaboration with the Ada Tache architecture firm, with a clear focus on compliance with regulations, but above all on brightness, a pleasant colour scheme and a sense of openness. 

All these details are essential for your dentist to create perfectly tailored prosthetic restorations that will feel just as natural as your own teeth, avoiding that unpleasant sensation of them feeling ‘too high’ or ‘too low’.

Many treatments now also include an intraoral scanning stage, which is far more comfortable than the traditional impression taken with impression materials, which many patients found unpleasant. With the digital scanner, the process is completely different. You simply sit back and relax in the chair whilst the dentist moves a tiny device along each tooth. At the end, they will show you the 3D image forming on the screen, where you can see exactly what your teeth, gums and palate look like in a lifelike image. The overall impression is that you know exactly what is happening; you can see, follow along and ask your dentist questions at any time. You are part of the process. 

Here, too, you will find specialists in periodontology, a vital field that focuses on gum health. This is often overlooked, as the discomfort caused by gum inflammation can be easily ignored – it is not as acute as the pain of a cavity, for example. That is why it can take a long time before you notice the signs of periodontitis, yet this condition can jeopardise the stability of your teeth. As a member of the AALZ and ISLD ambassador for Romania, Dr Ciurescu is a dedicated researcher into laser applications in clinical practice and a staunch advocate of their use. One surgical application she performs successfully is the preparation of the surgical site prior to implant treatment. The main risk associated with dental implants is the development of a related gum infection, known as peri-implantitis. Lasers have the ability to remove harmful bacteria from subgingival pockets, thereby dramatically reducing the risk of peri-implantitis and increasing the chances of treatment success.

The clinic currently has several types of high-performance lasers from the world leader, Biolase. The company manufactures various models, such as diode (940 nm), Erbium (Er:YAG 2940 nm, Er,Cr:YSGG 2790 nm) and YAG (Nd:YAG 1064 nm), often in combination with water atomisation. The various types of laser are used for a wide range of procedures on soft and hard tissues, gum surgery, teeth whitening or the treatment of cavities. The devices we use most frequently are Waterlase and Epic X. 

If you speak to Alina Picior, our clinic manager, about dental emergencies in Brașov, you’ll find that we’re attentive and available even in unforeseen situations. “We see emergency patients on the very day they contact us.
