CERTIFICATION IN LASER DENTAL TREATMENTS
Dr Andrei Stoica is a general dentist at the DENT ESTET clinic in Arad, having graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry at the “Vasile Goldiș” Western University in Arad. He had his sights set on this field as far back as his school days, as he wanted to be able to help people in any way he could.
He always gives his full attention to every patient, because among the challenges of this profession are tailoring treatment solutions to people’s needs and explaining procedures in detail. All of this aims to provide safety, comfort and confidence.
“The satisfaction of seeing that the patient is happy and returns to the clinic with a smile on their face is, in my view, second to none.”
When he is not at the clinic, he devotes time to his passion for cars, specifically Formula 1. He enjoys rock music and often goes to the theatre, and as for sporting activities, he prefers skiing and surfing.
“Do what is right, not what is easy.” – Roy T. Bennett
For Dr Andrei Stoica, dentistry is about responsibility, empathy and precision. He believes that the success of a treatment is measured not only by clinical results, but also by the patient’s confidence and comfort. He approaches every case with attention to detail and a sincere desire to help — “do what is right, not what is easy”, as his favourite motto goes. In his practice, he aims to offer personalised solutions, explaining every step so that the patient feels safe and involved. For him, true satisfaction comes when a patient returns smiling, with their confidence restored.
For me, prosthetics is the perfect blend of aesthetics, functionality and precision. I love the technical side of things — seeing how every detail matters, and how a perfectly fitted restoration can transform a patient’s smile and life. In recent years, technology has taken everything to a whole new level: the intraoral scanner, Modjaw, the laser — all of these help us work with a level of accuracy that, just a few years ago, we couldn’t even have dreamed of.
All-on-4 is a complex treatment, but one that delivers extraordinary results. Especially when I think of younger patients, aged around 30–40, who have lost most of their teeth and believe there are no solutions left. I explain the process to them step by step — from the surgical procedure to the temporary and final restorations — and I see them return at the end, smiling without hesitation.
One case that has stayed with me is that of a 35-year-old patient who was completely edentulous in the upper jaw. She used to cover her mouth when she spoke. After the All-on-4 treatment, she came back for a check-up smiling and full of confidence. It’s the kind of moment that confirms that the dental profession has a real impact on people.
Collaboration is essential. When planning All-on-4 treatments, I work alongside Dr Paul Brănuțiu – who handles the surgical aspect – and Dr Cătălin Mărtișcă. During the multidisciplinary consultation, we provide patients with a comprehensive overview, discussing the procedure, the stages involved, the costs and the adjustment period. It is a team effort, and clear communication with the patient makes all the difference.
It is a close collaboration, based on trust and attention to detail. For example, we had a case where a patient, who had been edentulous for some time, had lost her occlusal reference points and was biting differently each time. We made a stabilising splint, then a temporary restoration to which she gradually became accustomed. Only once she had achieved a stable bite did we proceed to the final restoration.
This adaptation phase, which we carry out whilst the patient has the temporary restorations in place, is essential both for the patient’s comfort and for the longevity of the final restorations.
The intraoral scanner and the Modjaw system are tools that provide us with control and precision. For example, using Modjaw we can analyse the actual movements of the jaw and adjust the final restorations so that the bite feels natural. Patients notice the difference — they say that their ‘new teeth’ feel just like their own.
It is a huge step forward compared to traditional methods, and the aesthetic and functional results are clearly superior.
Laser treatment offers a huge advantage: precision and minimal trauma for the patient. For example, when removing an old dental implant, my colleague, the periodontist Dr Constantin Budescu, uses a setting that allows for laser osteotomy – that is, the removal of the implant in a highly controlled manner. Compared to the traditional method using a drill, it is a much gentler procedure, with faster healing.
For me, the laser perfectly complements the prosthetic aspect: it gives you control during the surgical phase and a clean field for the final reconstruction.
Laser technology allows us to be much gentler on the tooth. We treat only the area affected by decay, without removing healthy tooth structure, which means smaller fillings and a more conservative outcome. At our clinic, we use Biolase® WaterLase® lasers, a modern technology that combines laser energy with water for a precise and gentle procedure.
For me, an important step in properly understanding laser therapy was the mentorship provided by Dr Codruța Ciurescu, who showed me how important it is to customise the laser settings according to each patient and each type of treatment.
The difference is immediately noticeable. Many patients tell me they feel more relaxed, precisely because there is no noise from the drill or any unpleasant sensations of pressure or ‘burning’. Laser treatment is silent and much easier to tolerate, especially for anxious patients.
For patients in Arad, laser treatment for cavities means a calmer, less anxiety-inducing and more comfortable experience — dentistry that puts the patient’s comfort and care first.
My mentor is Dr Paul Brănuțiu — I have been under his guidance for four years, ever since I was a student at university. He has provided me with invaluable advice and useful information throughout my professional training. To me, he is a model of integrity, empathy and respect for patients. From him, I have learnt the importance of effective communication and a personalised approach to dental treatment. I am grateful to him for the positive impact he has had on my life and career.
What motivates me most is the patient’s reaction at the end of treatment. That sincere, grateful smile is the best confirmation that what I do matters. Every day I strive to improve, to learn, and to offer patients not only the right treatment, but also an experience that restores their confidence.
In my spare time, you’re likely to find me at the Arad Theatre or the Summer Theatre. I have a special connection with this world, as I’ve been exposed to it since I was a child and have plenty of stories and experiences to share.
